Morphometry of black grouse Lyrurus tetrix L. and hazel grouse Tetrastes bonasia L. from the north of the Arkhangelsk Region, Russia

Body weight and lengths of the wing, tail, tarsus, beak were measured in 139 black grouse (BG) Lyrurus tetrix (Linnaeus, 1758) 318 hazel (HG) Tetrastes bonasia captured north Arkhangelsk Region (Russia) 1990–2006. Almost all estimates are within average range parameters for Northern Europe (Norway – Komi Republic). Sexual dimorphism BG was revealed traits except wing length; by tail length appears to be growing from east west. Size HG is inexplicit and, apparently, minimal spring; females before during egg-laying heavier than males. In young BG, dimensional growth tarsi males completed 2nd-3rd months since birth, that 3rd-4th month, wings 4th-5th months. HG, these processes shorter: 2nd Tail body showed greatest variation both species, while most stable parts their bodies. Tarsus also utterly independent other four traits, correlated with or only (HG). The age-related patterns studied correlations between them indicate likelihood migration processes, especially BG. arrival first-year birds species study area August May-June hardly probable, but emigration may take place. Part size adult apparently due arrivals outside.
